Looking at the growth of homeschooling over recent years and a prospective growth of 12% each year it is obvious that homeschooling is beneficial to the education of children.
If homeschooling is approached correctly the benefits are extremely high.
Academic Achievement
It has been proved over and over again that homeschooled children score much higher than the average learner in a public school. The undivided attention of the parent and the way the child’s needs are met in homeschooling can never happen in a public school. These two things are particularly important in any form of education. Children in public schooling can loose interest if they seldom get attention from a teacher. If children don’t achieve well or are not interested in a subject, it is even more important that they have a teacher that constantly motivates and assists. Even though public school teachers are normally passionate about their subjects, it is not always possible to constantly motivate and assist all learners.
Environment
Public school environments aren’t necessarily bad or negative, but some can be. If a child is constantly subjected to bullying or has to share a class with children that are undisciplined or bad mannered, his or her achievement won’t be as well as it can be. Some children are shy or can’t focus in noisy environments. There are also those that work slower or faster than the other children in the class. In public schools the child will have to conform to the pace of the average learner in the class. Slower children can become stressed and faster workers will get bored.
In a homeschool environment these factors are irrelevant. Studying can be done at the pace that suits the child. Faster workers will have a shorter school day or will advance quicker. The slow worker won’t feel the pressure because he or she won’t be measured against the other children in a class. Slow workers are not less intelligent than other children. Some children are perfectionists, others can have concentration problems or a child can be very creative and tends to daydream. Unfortunately in public schools , these children are easily being labeled as dumb which can be very negative for any child’s self-image.
These are by far not the only benefits, but are two of the most important to consider when deciding about homeschooling.
