As with all other magazines there are a variety of homeschooling magazines available and you will need to choose the ones that would benefit your situation the most.
While homeschooling magazines can be valuable it is not a necessity. If you have to choose between magazines and other necessary materials, leave the magazines.
The internet is loaded with free advice and articles that can be of as much use as magazines.
Don’t subscribe to a magazine until you are completely sure this magazine will be the most valuable to your situation.
Library
Your public library might subscribe to some of the homeschooling magazines. If you are not able to lend these magazines as you would do with books, you can spend some time in the library reading them. This will help you to make an informed choice to which magazines you want to buy or subscribe to.
Bookstores
If there is a demand for homeschooling magazines in your area, it is likely that your local bookstore will keep copies. If you find something that interests you, you can buy a few different publications to decide which ones are the best.
Online Subscriptions
Most printed magazines have a website where you can read some of the articles for free or read some of the previous issues that were archived. There are also publications that are only available online. The online membership might be cheaper than a subscription to a printed magazine. You will also have the option to only print the information you are interested in. The advantage of printing the articles yourself is that you can group them into specific categories. This way you won’t have to search through all your magazines to find information on a topic or subject. Another option is to file the articles directly on the computer which saves paper and you will immediately know where to find something.
Sharing
You support group can subscribe to a variety of homeschool magazines that can be shared between the members. This might not work very well if the support group includes members from different areas, but if it is a town-based support group it can work on the same concept as a library.
Be careful to be lured into subscribing to a magazine by offerings of free products. If the magazine is not really worth it, you will end up paying a lot for that free product, you might not have needed to begin with.
